Who we are

We’re Adriana and Chuck, a married couple who’ve been living on Oahu’s North Shore for nearly 30 years.

We love surfing, traveling, tropical weather, and the relaxed island vibe - exactly why we chose Haleiwa as our home.

Here’s a bit more about each of us

Adriana

- Founder / Editor-in-Chief

The North Shore of Oahu first won me over at 15, when I came from Brazil to compete in pro bodyboarding at Pipeline. That connection brought me back to stay in 1997.

I went on to study marine science at Hawaii Pacific University and later worked as an oceanographer at UH. During that time, I launched HaleiwaTown.com in 2004, blending my love for the North Shore with a passion for web development. When my food blog, LivingHealthyWithChocolate, took off, both the site and my science career took a backseat for a while.

Now, after over 20 years living on the North Shore and with experience in content marketing, photography, and video production, I’m back running HaleiwaTown.com full-time. I launched the revamped version on March 18, 2024 (finally 😊). I’m excited about what’s ahead and to connect with visitors again.

When I'm not glued to the computer screen or baking, you'll find me with my husband Chuck, bodyboarding, surfing, kitesurfing, or exploring new surf breaks around the world!

- Founder / Photographer

Like my wife Adriana, I fell under the spell of surfing and the North Shore back in 1996. Originally from Central Florida, the North Shore has been my home ever since.

Surfing and photography are two of my greatest passions, and I'm the guy behind the lens for all the photos you see on HaleiwaTown.com!

My photography has been featured digitally and in magazines worldwide, and now, through HaleiwaTown.com, I get to share the North Shore's beauty with visitors.

When I'm not snapping photos or helping people find their dream piece of Hawaii real estate (my day job), you'll find me out there with Adriana chasing waves, surfing, kitesurfing, exploring new locations across the globe, or hanging with our pets (dogs and cat).

Why we started HaleiwaTown

We founded HaleiwaTown.com in 2004 with the goal of providing valuable resources to help visitors plan their trips and experience the beauty of this side of the island.

From the beginning, we aimed to make HaleiwaTown.com the go-to guide and trusted resource for those visiting Haleiwa Town and the North Shore of Oahu.

Our mission has always been to give travelers the information they need while supporting the local community, fostering connections with local businesses, and promoting economic growth.

We also wanted to emphasize the importance of conservation practices to help protect the environment and encourage everyone to respect the island’s natural beauty, culture, and customs.

What sets us apart from other travel sites

We’re not a big travel company or AI-generated blog. We live here, surf here, and are out and about in Haleiwa every day. Everything you see on this site is based on real experiences - always current, always personal.

That’s why our travel advice has been valuable to many and featured in the HuffPost, LATimes, Popsugar, CBSNews, Marriott, and other major global publications.
